Following the deaths of Mike Brown and Eric Garner, tensions between cops and the communities they serve have been at an all-time high. Now, a new proposed bill will add fuel to the fire. Arizona Gov. Doug Ducey may sign a bill that would forbid law enforcement officials from publicizing the names of cops involved in shootings until 60 days after the incident took place. Although the bill has garnered support from other politicians, many are outraged and would rather not see it brought to fruition. “Waiting 60 days to give communities information about a shooting or violent police encounter will not be an effective ‘cooling-off period,’” said Adriana Garcia-Maximiliano of the Center for Neighborhood Leadership. “The secrecy will only escalate the problem.” Read more.
