Tamera Mowry-Housley opened up to Oprah Winfrey about the years of online hate that has been directed at her over her marriage to Fox News correspondent Adam Housely, who is White.
During a taping of “Where Are They Now,” a series airing Winfrey’s OWN channel, Mowry-Housley sat next to her sister, Tia Mowry-Hardrict, as she outlined the hateful messages she has received, mostly on Twitter. “Because when my husband and I are so openly– and we’re fine with showing– is love,” she said. “Love. But people choose to look past love and spew hate. That’s what hurts me because I’ve never experienced so much hate ever in my life. Ever.”
Mowry-Housley shared one of the most hurtful comments someone directed at her: “I get called ‘White man’s whore,’ she said. “The new one was, back in the day, you cost $300, but now you’re giving it to him for free.”’
Tia, who is married to a Black man, wiped away her sister’s tears as she listened to her open up about her pain. Chiming in on Temera’s words, Tia said, ” I get the opposite, actually. I’ve had people say that you’ve done it right by marring a White man.”
But Tamera’s response to the hate is to express the love she has for her husband. “I love my husband so much, she said. “I love my family. I love our dynamic. I’m proud to be in the relationship I am in because it’s based on love. Pure love.” Watch the segment below to see the twins discuss Tamera’s painful reaction to the online hate she has experienced.
