DETAILS INSIDE:
San Diego, CA rapper Tiny Doo dodged life in prison
this week, when he had gang conspiracy charged
dismissed. According to NBC San Diego, a judge
dropped charges against the rapper (real name:
Brandon Duncan), as part of an ongoing gang case.
Tiny Doo was arrested in November, along with 14
other gang members, and charged in a gang
conspiracy case that claimed his music inspired
shootings against gang rivals.
The charges were reportedly dropped due to lack of
evidence. He told NBC San Diego that his music was,
quite literally, being put on trial. "If you want to hear my
music, you want to listen to it, it's not promoting
anything," he said. "I'm not telling anybody to commit
no crime, I'm not telling anybody to do anything.
It's just artistry. I'm painting a picture of an urban
community." Prosecutors attempted to link Tiny Doo
with a 15-year-old conspiracy law that states that
active gang members can be charged for crimes
committed by other gang members, regardless of their
actual involvement in the crime.
The law also states that prosecutors are required to
prove that the person or persons charged had to have
benefited from the gang crime. Prosecutors in the
case attempted to accuse him of benefiting from
added street cred as a result of the shootings.
