Orlando Police PepperSpray Crowd Outside Beauty Supply Store

ORLANDO, Fla. —
Orlando police resorted to pepper spray to disperse a crowd gathered for a sale at a beauty supply store in Pine Hills Friday.

The manager of the Beauty Exchange said he has no idea why the customers who gathered Friday morning refused to form a line, but he also said he doesn't understand why the eight Orlando police officers couldn't find another way to control the crowd.

The first customer showed up outside the Beauty Exchange around 2 a.m. for a grand opening sale.

By 9 a.m. the crowd was gathered around the front door. The store manager said someone called police because people were jumping the line.

He said his security guards couldn't get the customers to form a line and neither could the police.

According to the store's manager, when those in the crowd wouldn't listen to police, officers told them to leave. He said he wasn't happy with that.

"I said, 'No, don't make them leave,' and they pushed toward the door," the manager told Channel 9's Kathi Belich.

He said that is when one of the officers shot pepper spray into the crowd.

According to the manager that is when the crowd began to disperse. Those who stayed were able to eventually get inside the store and take advantage of the sale.

The store has another sale planned Saturday and the store manager said he hopes thing don't get out of control again.
