Vybz Kartel Set To File Multimillion-Dollar Lawsuit Against Former Commissioner Of Police

KINGSTON, Jamaica:
Convicted murderer, Adidja Palmer is to file a multimillion-dollar defamation lawsuit against the outgoing Commissioner of Police, Owen Ellington and Television Jamaica (TVJ).

Palmer's lead attorney Tom Tavares-Finson says the lawsuit is in relation to comments made on the April 9 episode of the current affairs programme All Angles on TVJ hosted by Dionne Jackson-Miller.

Palmer, who is popularly known as 'Vybz Kartel' is expected to file the claim in the Supreme Court this afternoon through attorney-at-law Alexander Williams.

Tavares-Finson told The Gleaner/Power 106 News Centre that the entertainer, who is serving a life sentence, signed the court documents this morning.

Tavares-Finson argues that the commissioner’s comments are prejudicing the entertainer’s appeal.

However, the Police High Command has rejected the criticisms, noting that the claims were already well-established.

Last week, Ellington announced his retirement from the police force.

In April, Kartel, and three other men were sentenced to life in prison for the 2011 murder of Clive ‘Lizard’ Williams.

He has filed an appeal against his conviction but the notes of evidence for the legal process have not yet been completed.

Meanwhile, Tavares-Finson said Kartel is in good spirit and is looking forward to his appeal.
