Lil Boosie was released from Angola State Prison in Louisiana at 7:10 p.m. Wednesday night (March 5), according to Baton Rouge TV station WAFB.
Boosie, real name Torrance Hatch, has been locked up since 2009 for violating his probation after being caught with weed. He pleaded guilty to a third-offense marijuana possession charge.
After his release the rapper was transferred to a sheriff's department facility in St. Francisville where family members were waiting for him.
Boosie earned his GED and reportedly wrote at least 500 songs while he was away.
A press conference arranged by Atlantic Records has been scheduled for Monday (March 10).
