Juror in Vybz Kartel murder case, was offered bail of seven hundred and fifty thousand dollars and instructed to return to court next week.
The accused, Livingston Cain is being charged with attempting to pervert the course of justice by offering money to a fellow jury member and foreman in the murder trial of Vybz Kartel.
The allegations state that a bribe in the sum of five hundred thousand dollars to be paid on Friday, March 14, 2014 should she find, and influence other jury members to find the accused men ‘not guilty’.
Director of public prosecutions, Paula Llwellyn who is leading the case for the prosecution says that the allegations are that the foreman was approached by the accused, Mr. Cain and told that he wanted to speak to her privately.
In light of certain information she had been given by other jurors prior to her conversation with Cain. She took out her Blackberry phone and voice recorded the conversation that took place between her and Mr. Cain.
It is alleged that Cain told her he realized she had influence among the rest of the jurors and wanted her to convince the other jurors to come in with a not guilty verdict against all 5 men.
The half million dollars payment was said to be made the following day, March 14.
Police investigators arrested Mr. Cain on suspicion of attempting to pervert the course and conspiracy to do same and took statements from the jurors as we'll as they took bb cellphone belonging to foreman on the jury.
Mr. Cain's phones were seized following the allegations and his home was also searched. The information from the cellphone is to be presented to the court, at the next session.
