Lauryn Hill paid $500,000 towards her debt to the IRS just ahead of her tax evasion hearing. The singer is due to appear in federal court in Newark on Monday afternoon to be sentenced for failing to pay taxes on $1.8 million she earned from 2005 to 2007.
Her attorney, Nathan Hochman, said Monday that Hill has paid $970,000 total to satisfy her state and federal liabilities.
The Grammy Award-winner still faces up to one year in prison on each of the three counts she's been charged with according to Time.

Lauryn Hill was just sentenced to three months in prison for tax evasion. She will also have to spend three additional months on home confinement according to theAssociated Press.
The 37-year old singer pleaded guilty in the case last year. She told the judge that she had intended to pay her taxes, but couldn't during the period of time she dropped out of the music business.
Hill's attorney had sought probation in the case. At this point it is not clear when or where Hill will report to prison.
