Mayweather Ordered To Pay Pacquiao Over $113K

It keeps getting worse for Floyd Mayweather, Jr.  In addition to his girlfriend calling the police on him, and his best friend forming a partnership with his rival Manny Pacquiao; Mayweather has now been ordered to pay Pacquiao over $113K.
This decision was made by a judge on the defamation lawsuit case of Pacquiao vs. Mayweather.  If you recall, Pacquiao sued Mayweather over Mayweather’s remarks that Pacquiao was using performance-enhancing drugs.  Pacquiao sought unspecified damages against Mayweather, stating that:
“Calling a professional athlete a cheater is the most serious charge one can make.  Accusing an athlete of using performance-enhancing drugs — however baseless and lacking in evidence — is toxic.”
Interestingly enough, the judge hasn’t ruled in Pacquiao’s favor.  He just he ordered Mayweather to pay Pacquiao simply because Mayweather never bothered to show up in court for the deposition.
In fact, not only did he not show up, but he was spotted that same day, burning $100 bills in an Atlanta nightclub (the deposition was in Las Vegas).  The judge took this to be an “obviously intentional decision not to appear for his court ordered deposition,” and subsequently ordered Mayweather to pay Pacquiao’s attorney’s fees of $113,518.50, as well as court costs in the amount of $774.10.
This would be a huge setback for most people, but don’t feel too bad for Mayweather.  In June, Mayweather was named as the highest-paid athlete in the world by Forbes.  Forbes also reported that Mayweather earned a combined $85 million in fights with Victor Ortiz in 2011 and Miguel Cotto in May.
So he’ll be alright.
